You Don't Have to Offer Olive Branches When They're Then Used To Poke You In The Eye
A short and sweet Healthy Boundaries for Kind People® Parable
My student and now Certified Healthy Boundaries for Kind People® Coach, Theresia Daniel, wrote (and illustrated) this about our initial work. Perhaps it resonates for you, too:
"Have you extended an olive branch only to have someone poke you in the eye with it? (Sometimes repeatedly?)"
This was one of the great questions Randi Buckley asked me.
The answer was yes.
She said I don't have to keep doing that. Maybe it is their turn to extend an olive branch. 🤯
If someone is committed to poking you in the eye, sometimes you just have to stop giving them the opportunity to.
Simple doesn't mean easy.
If you do find yourself getting poked in the eye with your gifted olive branch, I hope you know that you deserve a lot better than that!
So true. When life gives you olives make a martini or a greek salad. Burn me once, burn me twice, peace out cuz I'm taking this advice.
